Wroxeter lies in the Shropshire countryside beside the Severn, five miles southeast of Shrewsbury. This small village sits atop Viroconium Cornoviorum, once Roman Britain's fourth-largest city. Reach it via the A458 from Shrewsbury through Atcham, or from the A5 (ancient Watling Street) via the B4380. A towering 20-foot Roman wall fragment stands remarkably intact in a local field.
