Workington occupies Cumbria's west coast where the Derwent meets the Irish Sea, serving as a gateway to the western Lakes. The A596 provides the main route, connecting to Whitehaven southbound and Carlisle northbound, whilst the A66 links eastward to Penrith and the M6. Popular drives include Keswick (A66/A5086), Cockermouth (A597), and Whitehaven along the coast. The town boasts around 16 fast EV chargers for longer journeys. Most striking are the red sandstone castle ruins perched dramatically above the Derwent estuary.
