Woolley Bridge straddles the Manchester-Derbyshire border along the A628 Woodhead Pass, the main trans-Pennine route to Sheffield. The settlement sits in Longdendale Valley with moorland rising toward the Peak District. The old Manchester-Sheffield railway line, now the Longdendale Trail, runs directly through the village.
