Witney lies 12 miles west of Oxford along the A40, serving as the gateway to the Cotswolds. The M40 to Junction 8 provides the quickest access from London, whilst the A415 and B4022 connect surrounding villages. Popular routes include short trips to Oxford and longer drives into the Cotswolds. The town's 18th-century Butter Cross, with its distinctive pyramidal roof, still dominates the market square where dairy farmers once traded.
