Winder occupies the western Lake District between Cleator Moor and the coast, accessible via the A595 from Barrow or through Cockermouth from the A66. The area has about 17 fast EV charging points serving both locals and fell walkers. The town sits within sight of Florence Mine's distinctive red sandstone headframe, one of England's last iron ore operations.
