Winchburgh sits in West Lothian, about 20 kilometres west of Edinburgh between the capital and Linlithgow. This former shale oil town has become a popular commuter base whilst keeping traces of its industrial past. Access is straightforward via the M9 motorway just south of the village, with drivers from Edinburgh typically using the M8 to junction 3 then the A89 through Broxburn. The area boasts roughly 100 public EV charging points, reflecting its role as a modern commuter hub. The red-brick ruins of 15th-century Niddry Castle remain the settlement's most distinctive landmark.
