Wigan lies 20 miles northwest of Manchester, easily reached via M6 Junction 25 or the A49 through Warrington. The M58 provides quick access to Liverpool, whilst local routes like the A577 serve St. Helens and surrounding areas. Two railway stations handle Virgin Trains to London and local Northern Rail services. The town's defining feature is the distinctive Haigh Hall tower, standing 1,000 feet tall and visible from the M6.
