West Sandwick occupies Yell's western coast, accessible via ferry from Shetland Mainland to Ulsta, then the B9081 west for 9km through Mid Yell. Most visitors combine it with wider northern isles tours, whilst locals use it for connections to Lerwick. The village retains its small working harbour, originally built for the local fishing fleet.
