Upshire lies on the edge of Epping Forest, reached via the A121 from either Waltham Abbey or Epping, with M25 Junction 26 nearby for longer journeys. The village serves as a gateway to the ancient forest, popular with walkers and cyclists. Its medieval parish church boasts one of Essex's rare surviving wooden bell towers from the 15th century.
