Uigen lies on Lewis's wild western edge, reached via the A858 from Stornoway ferry port - a 50km drive across moorland that feels like crossing to the edge of the world. Local roads connect nearby settlements like Reef and Valtos, whilst the coastal B8011 offers dramatic Atlantic views. The village sits beside Uig Sands, three kilometres of pristine white sand where wild orchids bloom in the machair grassland each summer.
