Tullamore sits in Ireland's midlands, 102 kilometres southwest of Dublin along the N52 and N80. The county town of Offaly connects easily to major routes, with the M6 motorway 20 kilometres north for quick access to Dublin and Galway. Hourly trains reach Dublin Heuston in 75 minutes. The town lies where the Grand Canal crosses the Tullamore River, surrounded by flat bogland and farmland. It's famous worldwide for Tullamore D.E.W. whiskey, with the modern distillery offering tours since 2014. The real curiosity though is Charleville Castle, a Gothic fortress from 1798 that locals swear is Ireland's most haunted building.
