Tranent lies 20 kilometres east of Edinburgh in East Lothian, easily reached via Junction 34 off the A1 or the coastal A199 through Musselburgh. The former mining town sits between the Lammermuir Hills and Firth of Forth, serving local communities like Cockenzie and Prestonpans whilst remaining popular with Edinburgh commuters. The historic mercat cross still stands in the market square where medieval proclamations were once read.
