Tigharry

Scotland

Scotland

Tigharry occupies North Uist's Atlantic-facing coast in the Outer Hebrides, reached via the A865 from Lochmaddy ferry terminal about 15 kilometres west. The settlement sits amongst traditional crofting communities on the distinctive machair landscape, where fertile grasslands meet white sand beaches. Most visitors arrive by CalMac ferry from Skye or Harris, though the causeway connections allow driving from Benbecula and South Uist. The name derives from Gaelic "Tigh a' Gharraidh" - house of the garden.
