Thurlestone

Thurlestone perches on Devon's South Hams coast between Salcombe and Plymouth, drawing visitors to its sandy beach and famous offshore rock arch. Reach it via the A379 coastal road, connecting from the A38 at various points - either through Totnes on the A381 or via smaller roads from Kingsbridge. The narrow lanes require patience, particularly in summer, but reward drivers with glimpses of the sea through Devon's characteristic high hedgerows. The village's name comes from the distinctive pierced rock formation visible from the beach, where Atlantic waves have carved a perfect natural arch through the limestone.
