Thropton is a small Northumberland village three kilometres from Rothbury, reached via the B6341 from the A696. Most visitors drive up from Newcastle, about 50 kilometres south, whilst locals use quiet country lanes connecting to nearby settlements like Snitter and Flotterton. Around 14 fast EV chargers serve the area. The village name comes from Norse meaning "settlement by the thorn trees," and you can still spot ancient thorns growing along the old stone field boundaries.
