Swainbost lies at the northern tip of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, reached via ferry from Ullapool then the A857 north from Stornoway. This remote crofting settlement sits amongst peat moorland near several similar villages including Cross and Dell. The area has roughly 3 EV charging points, essential given the isolation. The nearby Butt of Lewis lighthouse marks Scotland's northernmost point.
