Summerlee forms part of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, about 10 miles east of Glasgow via the M8. The A89 and A725 provide the main local connections, with the M73 nearby for longer journeys. Over 250 EV charging points serve the area. The district's name comes from the massive Summerlee Ironworks that operated here from 1836 to 1932.
