Stromness perches on Orkney's western shore, reached via the A965 from Kirkwall or by ferry from Scrabster. The town's winding harbour street remains virtually unchanged since the 1700s, when it served as the last stop for Hudson's Bay Company vessels bound for the Canadian Arctic.
