Strathan perches on Loch Fyne's western shore in the Cowal Peninsula, reached via the A815 from Dunoon then local roads along the lochside. From Glasgow, most visitors take the A83 through Glen Croe to Inveraray, then follow the coastal route north. The narrow single-track roads demand careful driving with proper use of passing places. About four EV charging points serve the wider area, though advance planning is wise given the remote location. The settlement offers clear views across the loch to Castle Lachlan, the historic seat of Clan MacLachlan.
