Stocksfield lies along the A695 in Northumberland's Tyne Valley, about 15 miles west of Newcastle. The village serves commuters via excellent rail links on the Newcastle-Carlisle line, while drivers use the A695 or connect from the A1 near Blaydon. The station provides one of the region's best rail connections to both Newcastle city centre and the Lake District.
