Stileway lies in the Somerset Levels, where ancient causeways cross the flat, drained marshland between Glastonbury and the Mendips. The A39 provides the main route, with Glastonbury just 5km southeast and connections to the M5 via Wells or Street. The unique wetland geography means roads follow raised routes between settlements like Meare and Westhay, with flooding possible during heavy rain. The town sits on one of the original medieval causeways that allowed safe passage across the treacherous marshes.
