Stean

Stean sits in remote Nidderdale, reached via narrow lanes from the B6265 at Pateley Bridge. Most approach through Harrogate on the A59, then wind up through the dale past Lofthouse. The harsh Pennine climate brings frequent mist and winter snow that can cut off these high routes. The village is famous for How Stean Gorge, a dramatic limestone ravine carved by the beck, offering caves, waterfalls, and via ferrata routes dubbed "Little Switzerland."
