Stanley Gate lies in the West Lancashire countryside, roughly 4km from Ormskirk and accessible via local roads connecting to the A570 and M58 motorway network. Most visitors use Junction 3 of the M58, whilst locals travel via routes through Bickerstaffe and Westhead. The settlement retains its agricultural character, with the local road layout still following the historic field boundaries established when the area was first enclosed from common land centuries ago.
