Speenhamland

England
Speenhamland forms part of Newbury's western suburbs along the old Bath Road, once a vital coaching route between London and Bath. The A4 runs straight through, offering easy access to Reading and the M4 eastbound, or Hungerford westbound, whilst the nearby A34 provides connections north to Oxford and south to Southampton. This historic area gave its name to the pioneering Speenhamland System of 1795, Britain's first systematic approach to income support.
