Smithies is a residential area just north of Barnsley town centre, easily reached via the A61 from M1 Junction 36. The neighbourhood sits amongst former mining communities like Monk Bretton and Athersley, with excellent EV charging infrastructure including over 150 fast chargers nearby. Victorian terraced streets still line parts of the area, remnants of the coal mining era.
