Slad is a tiny Cotswolds village two kilometres from Stroud, famous as Laurie Lee's childhood home and setting for "Cider with Rosie." Reach it via the B4070 from Stroud or longer routes through junction 13 of the M5. The Woolpack Inn, featured in Lee's memoir, remains the village's social centre.
