Shotts is a former mining town in North Lanarkshire, positioned between Glasgow and Edinburgh on elevated ground that ensures brisk winters. The M8 motorway at Junction 5 provides quick access via the A7066, making it a convenient base for reaching either city in about 30 minutes. The town's 12th-century kirk remains one of Lanarkshire's oldest continuously used churches.
