Shiney Row lies between Sunderland and Newcastle in Tyne and Wear, just off the A183 that connects to Sunderland centre a kilometre away. Long-distance visitors use the A1(M) to the west, whilst locals rely on the A690 for Durham connections and the A19 for Newcastle or Middlesbrough. The former mining village gets its name from how sunlight once reflected off the local colliery slag heaps.
