Scout lies in Lancashire's Rossendale Valley, reached via the A681 that threads through these Pennine foothills. Most visitors approach from Manchester using the M66 to Junction 3, then the A680 and A681 - about 25 kilometres through typical Lancashire mill country. The valley's stone terraces climb steep hillsides in the distinctive style of 19th-century mill workers' housing.
