Scotch Corner is one of England's busiest motorway junctions, where the A1(M) meets the A66 in North Yorkshire. It's a crucial interchange for traffic between Scotland and the south, and for crossing the Pennines between the Lake District and Teesside. The junction serves both long-distance travellers and local traffic heading to Richmond and the Yorkshire Dales. It's named after a former coaching inn that once provided a vital stop for mail coaches travelling the Great North Road.
