Saltwell forms part of central Gateshead, positioned on the south bank of the Tyne just opposite Newcastle city centre. The A1 provides the main long-distance link whilst the A167 Durham Road cuts straight through the area for local access. Newcastle International Airport sits 15 kilometres northwest via the A1 and A696. The area boasts excellent EV charging infrastructure with over 400 public fast chargers nearby. Saltwell Park's Victorian boating lake features the original ornate iron bandstand from 1876, still used for summer concerts today.
