Saltney straddles the England-Wales border next to Chester, connected by the A548 which links to the A55 North Wales Expressway and Chester's city centre 4km away. Most visitors arrive via Chester from the M53 or M56 motorways, with the town serving as a convenient border crossing point. The station claims to be Wales's smallest staffed railway halt on the Chester-Wrexham line.
