Saddleworth occupies the Pennine foothills where Greater Manchester meets Yorkshire, comprising several moorland villages with strong industrial heritage. The M62 provides main access via Junction 22, whilst the A635 cuts through from Manchester toward Yorkshire. The area's approximately 200 EV charging points serve both local traffic from Oldham and long-distance trans-Pennine travellers. Despite administrative changes, Saddleworth villages stubbornly retain their Yorkshire postal codes.
