Ruthwell is a small Dumfries and Galloway village on the B724, roughly midway between Annan and Dumfries. Most visitors arrive via the A75, exiting at Annan for the 6-mile drive west, or from Dumfries taking the B724 east for 12 miles. The village sits in fertile farmland near the Solway Firth, with views toward the Lake District on clear days. Its claim to fame is the remarkable 8th-century Ruthwell Cross, a 17-foot carved stone monument with runic inscriptions.
