Rutherglen lies just four kilometres southeast of Glasgow city centre on the Clyde's south bank. The M74's Junction 1 provides direct access via the A724, while the A749 offers the quickest route from Glasgow through King's Park. The town claims to be Scotland's oldest royal burgh, chartered in 1126.
