Royd nestled in South Yorkshire's Pennine foothills between Sheffield and the moors, accessible via the A616 from the city or A57 from Manchester. The former industrial valley now houses residential developments amid rolling hills, with over 100 EV charging points in the wider area. The village retains ancient woodland clearings that give it its Norse name meaning "clearing."
