Rough Common lies along the A28 between Canterbury and the Kent coast, making it a handy waypoint for journeys to Herne Bay or Whitstable. Most visitors arrive via the M2 to A299 route from London, whilst locals use it as a residential base near Canterbury. The area retains traces of its original common land in the street patterns that still follow the old field boundaries.
