Roscrea sits right on the M7 between Dublin and Limerick, making it dead handy for anyone crossing the country. The town's about 100 kilometres from Dublin and 60 from Limerick, with good connections to Birr and Thurles on regional roads. The real draw here is the 13th-century castle with its gatehouse tower you can actually climb up, plus there's Damer House, a proper Georgian mansion turned heritage centre. Around 16 fast chargers are scattered about for electric cars, and the R445 through the Slieve Blooms offers a lovely alternative route from Dublin.
