Roscommon lies along the N61 between Athlone and Boyle, making it a handy stop for crossing the midlands. From Dublin, take the M6 to Athlone then head north on the N61 for about 30 kilometers. The N63 from Galway via Ballinasloe offers another route. The town serves the surrounding agricultural area with good connections to Strokestown and Tulsk. About 15 fast charging stations for electric vehicles are scattered around the center. The massive stone walls of the 13th-century castle ruins still dominate the town square, built by Robert de Ufford in 1269.
