Rookby lies along the A685 in Cumbria's Eden Valley, between Brough and Kirkby Stephen. Most visitors arrive via Junction 38 off the M6, then follow the A685 northeast through Orton. The A66 provides eastern access from Scotch Corner. Local routes connect to Kirkby Stephen for shops and the famous Settle-Carlisle railway. Medieval stone boundary markers still mark field edges around this former Norse settlement.
