Rake Head occupies a hillside position in Lancashire's Rossendale Valley, accessible via the A681 from Rawtenstall or winding local roads from neighbouring mill towns like Stacksteads and Waterfoot. The area sits within the South Pennines, where former textile communities cling to steep valley sides. An old Roman road once crossed these moors, and remnants of this ancient route still cut through the landscape of dry stone walls and moorland.
