Portrane is a small coastal village on a peninsula jutting into the Irish Sea, about 25 kilometres northeast of Dublin city centre and just 15 minutes from Dublin Airport. Most visitors take the M1 to Junction 4, then the R132 through Swords and Donabate, though the coastal R106 from Malahide offers prettier views. The area has decent EV charging infrastructure and sits near championship golf courses like Portmarnock and Island Golf Club. The village is dominated by the imposing red-brick towers of the former Portrane Asylum from 1903, once housing over 2,000 patients.
