Poolend is a small Staffordshire Moorlands settlement near Leek, accessed via the A523 from town. The A53 provides main connections to Buxton and the Potteries. It's positioned between Leek and Rudyard Reservoir on the Peak District's southern edge, with typical moorland terrain and changeable weather. The name derives from a historic mill pool.
