Pontoon perches on a narrow strip between Lough Conn and Lough Cullin in Mayo, connected by the bridge that gave it its name. Take the N5 from Dublin to Castlebar, then the R310 north for 15 kilometers, or from Galway via the N17 through Knock. The village sits about 20 kilometers northeast of Castlebar and makes for a handy scenic route between the larger towns. The Connacht Whiskey Company runs their distillery here, crafting single malt in copper pot stills right on the lakeshore.
