Plumbland is a small Cumbrian village reached via the A596 from Carlisle (20 miles north) or Workington. The M6 Junction 41 at Wigton provides motorway access. Set amongst rolling green countryside typical of west Cumbria, it's well-placed for exploring the rural communities between the Lake District and Solway coast. St. Cuthbert's church houses remarkable 12th-century wall paintings discovered during 1960s restoration work.
