Plockton perches on Loch Carron's shores in the Highlands, where palm trees grow alongside traditional Scottish cottages thanks to the Gulf Stream's warming influence. Reach it via the A87 from Inverness (80 miles), continuing through Kyle of Lochalsh before the final approach on minor roads. The village doubled as fictional Lochdubh in the BBC's "Hamish Macbeth" series.
