Pleshey lies in rural Essex, roughly 50km northeast of London via the A130 and country lanes through Great Waltham. Most visitors approach from Chelmsford or use the M25-A414 route from the capital. The village centres on one of England's most impressive Norman earthworks, with massive circular ramparts that once enclosed a powerful medieval castle.
