Pitfichie lies in rural Aberdeenshire, reached via the A944 from Aberdeen city centre about 25km east. The A944 connects westward toward the Highlands, whilst local roads link south to the A96 trunk route. Electric vehicle charging stations are available along the A96 corridor and in Aberdeen. The village name derives from old Scots meaning "white field," referencing the area's distinctive chalky soil.
