Paynes Green

England

England

Paynes Green lies in Surrey's countryside between Dorking and Horsham, about 30 miles south of London. The A29 provides the main north-south route, whilst the A24 runs nearby for connections to London via the A3 or M25. Local lanes link the scattered villages, and Gatwick Airport sits 15 miles southeast. The settlement's name derives from the medieval Payne family, whose 13th-century manor house once stood beside the village green.
