Papil lies on West Burra in the Shetlands, reached via the A970 south from Lerwick then the B9074 across the connecting bridges. The 15-minute drive from the main town crosses exposed causeways with sweeping views over Scalloway's sea inlets. Its name derives from Old Norse "papyli," meaning "priest's dwelling."
